About Us

back top

The Stage Stop located in Rollinsville Colorado originated as the Toll Gate Barn for the Butterfield Stage Coach Company operating across the Continental Divide over Rollins Pass providing service from Denver, Golden, Central City, Nederland, Boulder and Estes Park. Constructed in 1868, the amazing old barn is older than the state of Colorado and about as old as the Civil War. The Stage Stop has been described as being “like a great tree”, with it’s roots deep in history and it’s branches stretching out to the local community and it’s members. The wooden construction or “full framing” of the Stage Stop structure itself was done with the use of rough-hewn post and beam timbers connected by wooden pins and mortising. The Ponderosa timbers that make up the structure of the old barn were standing in virgin forests as early as the seventeenth century. After a fire wiped out many of the buildings in the 1950’s, the Stage Stop was one of the few to remain standing. The mahogany back bar is over one hundred fifty years old and was transported by covered wagon from Liberty Missouri to Leadville, to Breckenridge and later to the Stage Stop in Rollinsville, though one local legend continues to thrive that the back bar originally came from one of Al Capone’s bars in Chicago. Today the Stage Stop, renovated and restored by artists Patrick and Carol Schuchard, provides an authentic mix of real food, cutting edge music and craft beers in the most beautiful setting on the Front Range. Adding to the mystique of the Stage Stop is an extraordinary and rich musical heritage with many a late night performance in the upstairs dance hall by artists such as Stephen Stills. Dan Fogelberg, Joe Walsh, Dennis and Karl Wilson of the Beach Boys, Chicago, Supertramp, Three Dog Night, America, Dave Matthews Band, Robert Plant, Carole King, Judy Collins, Vince Herman and Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, String Cheese Incident and many others. Today the tradition continues with the finest local, regional and national touring acts.
As the old slogan goes, ” The Stage Stop … serving hicks, hippies and bikers since 1868”, today is amended to add hipsters, artists, musicians and beautiful people.
